UW-Whitewater Preview

An impressive array of returning athletes are back for Whitewater in 2008-2009.  Beyond the returning starters listed below are several other potential starters who have placed in the WIAC in the past.  Two offseason developments should help the team this year.  First, Olympic Training Center resident athlete Russ Davie joins the coaching staff to work with the upper weights.  Davie was the 2007 U.S. Nationals Greco champion and placed third in the recent Olympic Trials.  Also, some of the wrestlers took a trip to Russia this past summer where they were able to train and compete.  Coach Tim Fader came over from rival UW-La Crosse four years ago and has been steadily building the program ever since.  With two returning national qualifiers, including All-American Austin Bautista, and a slew of WIAC placewinners, Whitewater hopes to challenge La Crosse and Stevens Point for the top spot in conference.
