Del Val has 4 Champs at York

DelVal Logo#6 Delaware Valley paced the field with four champs at the York Invitational to run away with the team title, topping #17 York, and #8 TCNJ. With seven finalists and nine in the semifinals, the Aggies had a good weekend. Champs for the first place team included Jesse Harrington at 149 who received a forfeit from teammate Dan Hall. Hall defeated #4 Tyler Branham of TCNJ in the semifinals 8-3 before bowing out to teammate Harrington. Delaware Valley swept the three upper weights with Mike Wilcox, Joe West, and #8 Kyle Bilquist all earning convincing final round wins.

The host Spartans won two weights as #7 Kyle Flickinger took the title at 125 with a fall over highly regarded freshman Chris Sheetz of Del Val and #7 Jon Niedrich defeated #5 Ryan Herwig, also of Delaware Valley with a good 8-4 match. In other finals, Centenary’s #10 Mike Gummerson continued a strong season with 5-3 win over TJ Mitchell from Liberty. At 141, Elizabethtown’s Terry Bartholomew wrestled a good tournament before falling the Colon Lewis of Liberty in the final. 165 saw Al Wonesh of Ithaca drop a 6-2 match to Randy Moore of Gloucester Community College. TCNJ scored its only champ of the day when formerly ranked Greg Osgoody dominated #6 Brandon MacWhinnie 12-2 in a matchup of returning national qualifiers. Wilcox, West, and Bilquist finished off the day for Delaware Valley, with Bilquist putting a punctuation mark on an outstanding Aggie tournament by defeating #9 Luke Panizzi of York 6-2.

Rather than have a full double elimination format, the tournament matched semifinal losers in the consolation finals and dispensed with consolation semifinals and fifth place matches.
