The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Wesley Schultz of La Crosse. Schultz competed in a pair of events at 197 last week for the Eagles, getting a pin against WIAC foe Platteville before this past weekend’s Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational. Schultz came in as the 5th seed and won the title in dramatic fashion. After a first day of the tournament that saw him avenge a loss from earlier in the season, Schultz faced Whitewater’s Jordan Newman, the returning NCAA Champion at 184 lbs., in the semifinals. He erased an early deficit and pinned the top ranked Newman in the third period. This set up a match with returning All-American Kyle Koser of Messiah. Schultz pinned the defending Wheaton champ in just one minute to take the title. For his efforts, Schultz was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler award.

Schultz, a senior from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, is in his first year with the Eagles after spending last season at Wyoming. Previously, he was the 2016 NJCAA runner-up at 184 lbs. for Iowa Lakes Community College. This year at La Crosse, Schultz has compiled a 19-6 record and is currently the WIAC Wrestler of the Week. He was 4th at the Luther Open and 3rd at the Auggie-Adidas Invitational along with his Pete Willson championship. Schultz and the rest of the Eagles are next scheduled to compete Friday against Stevens Point to wrap up their conference dual meet schedule.
