Warner Captures 149 Pound Title as Spartans Place Fifth

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Greg Warner of York College. Warner won a tough 149 lbs. bracket at the New Standard Invitational to earn this week’s honor. In a bracket featuring the #3, #6, #8, #10, and #3 (at 157) wrestlers in the country, Warner came out on top. Ranked #10 coming into the weekend, Warner topped #6 Sean Peacock 15-10 in the second round, pinned Honorable Mention Stanley Bleich in the quarterfinals, and won 6-4 over #3 (at 157) Sam Schneider in the semifinals. In the finals, Warner defeated Rafael Roman of North Central 12-6 to secure the title. Warner was York’s lone finalist and led the team to a 5th place finish in their home invitational.

Warner, a junior from Newville, Pennsylvania, is a two time All-American for the Spartans. He finished 8th at 141 last season after coming in 5th at 141 as a freshman. This year, he was 5th at the King’s tournament and 1st at the Ursinus Fall Brawl. He season record is now 14-3, and he has a career record at York of 76-27. Warner and the Spartans have one more dual meet against Camden County College on Friday. They will be back in action after the break at the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming on January 12th and 13th.
